The White Paper should have looekd at how to reduce/eliminate the dependence on Foreign workers in Singapore by 2030 instead.First, there is the claim that there are many jobs that Singaporean do not want to do. One of the main reason is that the salary in such industry as construction, manufacturing, nursing and F&B sectors are too low. Increase the salary and this problem can be minimize or solve.Second, there are jobs that Singaporean may not have the ability or experience to do. In this case, the employment of FTs should be a temporary problem as Singaporeans can be trained to do the job in time. It may take 5 years or even 10 years but to project the White Paper in 17 years' time and use the same old assumption is incorrect.Third, for essential services, the jobs should only be staff by Singaporeans. We achieve this in the SAF because the salary is high enough and this can surely be done in the other essential services if we have the will. Argument that higher wages=higher prices is flawed especially since we have money in the reserves which should be use for such important matters. If we can give $1.1B to the privatized bus companies, why can't we do the same to the other essential services. If the government focus on how to increase the salaries of Singaporeans, productivity will follow and GDP will increase. Singapore can then be one big Happy Family. My suggestion is for the government to change its "Thinking in Reverse" syndrome when making policies that affect Singaporeans.
